At the time of its establishment in August 1999, IIIT initially purchased sixty computers for equipping the labs. It was subsequently felt that with the expansion of the Institute in the years to come, and the increase in number of students every year, both computer requirements and computer related problems would increase. It was therefore decided to set up an "Innovative Support Centre" which would arrange the assembling of computers and attend to allied hardware work. The centre was also expected to motivate and encourage the students to work on various hardware projects.
The Institute thus established the Innovative Support Centre in May 2000 for computer assembling and like computer lab-related work. It was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Minister, H.R.D., G.O.I. on Aug 12, 2000.
The Innovative Support Centre, under the dynamic leadership and guidance of Dr. M. D. Tiwari (Director) started functioning in full swing from Sept. 7, 2000. The Centre has taken every possible step to ensure efficient working of the hardware in the various Computer Labs, along with providing technical assistance to both staff and student alike. Its work also involves floating enquiries for required material and arranging the same at the lowest reasonable prices without compromising on quality and standard.
Following are the year-wise achievements of the Centre.
2000-2001: PIII Computer Systems- The Centre fabricated 176 systems according to the stipulated requirements of the Institute.
Projects- A number of projects in varied fields were also undertaken by the Centre. These projects include UPS, computer locking system, electronic timers and others.
2001-2002: PIII Computer Systems- The Centre fabricated 169 systems according to the stipulated requirements of the Institute.
P4 Computer Systems- The Centre also assembled 16 computer systems with high-end multimedia and graphics capabilities.
Servers- 10 servers with high processing speed and storage capacity were specially assembled catering to the Institute requirements.
These include
1. Internet DNS Server
2. Web Server
3. Mail Server
4. Linux NIS/NFS
5. Oracle Database Server
6. Windows LOGON/FILE/PRINT
Laptops- 2 custom laptops were also assembled.
Projects- A total of 70 projects were undertaken by the centre during this
year. These include PCB designing, hard disk security system, regulated power
supplies and others.
In addition, the students designed several projects such as analog to digital
converter with software, stepper motor driver with software and others under
the supervision and guidance of the Centre.
